Options for Teaching Online
MUSIC TEACHERS:
I hope this email finds you safe and healthy.
Now that we're in the adventure of teaching online, I've marked each lesson that does not require pitched instruments with an asterisk*. Any of the lessons using unpitched instruments will be easy to adapt to online teaching with "found" instruments, such as two pencils or spoons.
Depending on your teaching situation, if you need to share the video link with students, just click on the share symbol in a video to copy the YouTube URL link for sharing and include instructions for playing along with their "found" unpitched instruments.
If you prefer to create an instructional video to share with your students, each lesson has a complete set of teaching slides that comes with the purchase of the Jazz for Young People Volume 1 Teacher's Guide book. (Available from your favorite music store.) You could display the slides in a screen share as you provide instruction.
If you already own Jazz for Young People Volume 1, you're good to go! Use the access code on the first page of your book to access the teaching slides and download to your computer.
If you don't own Jazz for Young People Volume 1, this is a great way to check it out. Lesson 2 is a complete lesson with the downloadable teaching slides included. This is a great way to give it a test run.
Let me know how it goes!
Plus, check back in over the next month as I post additional tips to help you out.
Stay safe!
Sharon
